Donald M. Smith

Donald M. Smith, age 41, of Toledo, died suddenly on February 25, 2022. He was born August 8, 1980, in Sault Ste. Marie, MI and graduated from Ida (MI) High School in 1998. Don went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps for four years, followed by three more years in the Army Reserves. Hard-working and a great provider, he had been employed with North Star Steel in Delta as a Millwright/Mechanical Tech for the past 13 years.

Don was an avid reader, fan of Star Wars, and enjoyed cooking. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, especially his wife and children. Don was the classic sports dad, highly involved and supportive of his children’s fast pitch softball, baseball, and hockey teams. He was also very devoted to his special needs child, Ryder, teaching and leading as he did with all his children.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Stephanie A. (Henning) Smith; children, Gavin, Layla, and Ryder; mother, Ronda (Mike) Fuller; adopted father, Dale Smith; father, Lyle Thompson; brother, Mitchell Smith; mother and father-in-law, Patty and John Henning; sister-in-law, Jennifer (Chad) Alberts; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Tyler and Sheldon Smith, and brother-in-law, Jeremy Henning.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2022, in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.). where a scripture service and sharing of memories will begin at 7:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 4, 2022, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo. United States Marine Corps honors will follow at the church.
