Donald Sam Steel Klebold passed away peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania, at the age of 85, surrounded by his loving family. Sam was born in Columbus, Ohio, on July 18, 1930 to William and Gladys Klebold. He attended Clay High School and was a talented catcher on the varsity baseball team and graduated in 1949. Following graduation, he participated in Minor League Baseball for 2 years. Sam attended Bradley University as an undergraduate, before enlisting in The Draft in 1951. Sam was a Corporal in the United States Air Force and became a flight engineer during the Korean War. During his station at Coral Gables, Florida, he worked as a watch-clock maker at Coral Gables Jewelers. After his service he went home to help out with his family business, Klebold Suburban Hardware in Holland, Ohio. While working at the store, he met his lovely bride and wife Janet. They married in 1957 and celebrated 43 years of marriage. As a member of Providence Lutheran in Church, he was asked to help start a new Lutheran mission in Sylvania, Ohio, and helped to establish Advent Lutheran Church on Sylvania Avenue. In the early 1960s. Donald worked for William King Remodelers. He was a finish carpenter and he worked for Harvey Schroeder Builder Construction for 19 years. Sam then became a self employed handy man until his retirement in 1992, specializing in cabinet making. He had many interests. He loved gardening and on many summer days you would find him in his garden (or his wood workshop). It was no surprise that people would stop and ask to take pictures. Sam also loved watching baseball, dancing with his wife, reading his bible, spending time with his family and church friends and his 2 horses, Dolly and Nancy. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his devoted wife Janet. He is survived by his children, William , Ronald, Martha (Kevin) Scanes, Samuel (Amy) and Rebekah (Cary) Hensley; granddaughters, Emma, Ella, Elyse and Hannah; sisters, Catherine and Marylou (Lester). Father we love you and we thank you for your legacy of faith for which you have shown to all who met and know you. God Bless you! Family and friends will be received at the Walker Funeral Home 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. (West of Corey Rd.) on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 from 3-8 PM. Funeral services for Donald will be held at Advent Lutheran Church, 6735 Sylvania Ave. Sylvania, OH on Wednesday at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Waterville, OH.
