Donald M. Jarrell, Sr.

Donald M. Jarrell, aged 83, passed away unexpectedly at home on September 10 in Toledo, OH. He was born on February 2, 1941, in Canton, OH, to Henry and Evelyn Jarrell. Don married the love of his life, Joanne (Bos), on September 9, 1961, and together they built a beautiful family. Don and Joanne had just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Don is survived by his beloved children Marty (Barb) and Nancy (Jim Shollenberger). He was a proud grandfather to Andrew Jarrell, Stephen Jarrell, Jon (Mandy) Shollenberger, and Katie (Christian Siebenaler), and a doting great-grandpa (Papa) to Lily, Cal, Frankie and Rosie. Don was also cherished by his siblings - Bob, Ron and Judy (Karl Lind) as well as beloved nieces and nephews.

Don dedicated his career to the scrap metal recycling industry (Luntz Corporation and OmniSource) where he made many lasting contributions and friendships. Don found joy in spending time in northern Michigan, especially Harbor Springs. Don and Joanne loved day trips and taking vacations together often. He was a devoted member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Toledo, and First Baptist Church of Petoskey, MI, where he found a sense of community and faith.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 12, from 4-7 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave, Toledo. The funeral service will take place at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 4207 Laskey Road, Toledo, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to either Emmanuel Baptist Church or First Baptist Church of Petoskey in Don’s memory. Don’s kindness, love and dedication to his family and faith will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
