Donald M. Henry, age 75, of Maumee, Ohio passed away on Monday, August 31, 2015 at his residence. He was born on May 12, 1940 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Thomas and Ida (Baker) Henry. Don attended Army Language School in Monterey, California where he learned the Russian language. He was a Sgt. in the United States Army and served as a Russian Interpreter stationed in Germany. Don was well educated, among many accomplishments he obtained a Masters Degree in German from Notre Dame University where he taught German and a Masters Degree in French from the University of Toledo where he taught French. He was awarded the Fulbright Grant to study at Goethe Institute in Konstanz, Germany. He taught French and German in Indiana, and later taught at Libbey High school from 1983-2005. After retirement, he taught at the University of Findlay. He presented various sessions for Central State Foreign Language Association, Ohio Foreign Language Association, and Indiana State Foreign Language Association. Don developed and conducted various series of classes for adults at the former International Studies Center in Toledo. Don also developed and conducted Professional Growth classes for personnel of Toledo Public Schools, entitled Monet: Vision and Sustenance and Renoir: His Life, Art and Favorite Foods. He loved his students and was always there to tutor. Every week he would have Cultural Friday, where he would bring authentic German or French food for the students to enjoy. Don worked at the concession stands at the University of Toledo with his students, to earn money for student trips to Cedar Point or French and German restaurants in Columbus, Ohio. He was a member of the American Association of Teachers of German, American Association of Teachers of French, American Council of Teachers of Foreign Language, Ohio Foreign Language Association, Phi Delta Kappa, Pi Delta Phi, Kappa Delta Pi, Alliance Francaise de Toledo, the International Institute of Toledo and the American Legion. Don is survived by his loving wife of 30 years Mary Ann; twin brother, Ronald, nieces, Debora (Mike) Woodfill, Robin Bingham, Cassi Henry; nephews, Tim (Sasha) Henry, Bill Melton, Jeff Melton, and many great nieces and nephews. Don will also be missed by many friends, neighbors and loving canine companion Ellie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Velva Evans and nephew, Mike Melton. Visitation will be on Wednesday September 2, 2015 from 2-8 p.m. at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio with a scripture service at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maumee with prayers beginning at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association, American Kidney Foundation or the Toledo Humane Society.
