Donald N. Hanley

Donald N. Hanley passed away Sunday evening, April 30, 2017. He was born March 15, 1934 in Toledo to the late Harold T. and Helen (Neeb) Hanley. Don “Red” Hanley was a 1952 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Toledo and played left guard for the city champion Irish. He earned his finance degree from the University of Toledo in 1956, where he pledged Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and was voted Man of The Year. Following graduation, Don proudly served his country in the military. He completed basic training at Ft. Sheridan, IL and went on to handle classified financial documents for the U.S. Army. He earned medals for rifle marksmanship and leadership. Don married his wife Marjorie on August 20, 1960. He gave 30 years of service to Graybar Electric Company, where he handled financial management throughout the United States. He and his family lived in California, Utah, Florida and Ohio. Don and Marjorie were world travelers and one of his favorite pastimes was spending summers at his lake residence on Catawba Island with his family and wonderful friends. Don was a member of Catawba Island Club, The Toledo Club, Downtown Coaches Association and Toledo Elks #53. Don leaves to cherish his memory his dear wife, Marjorie; wonderful children, Michelle and John (Kim); and his beloved granddaughters, Alexandra and Karissa. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother, Richard (Ruth); sister, Joan; brother-in-law, Al; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers, Harold Jr. (Mary), Joseph (Donna); and sister, Pat. Visitation will take place from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m., Sunday, May 7, 2017 in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave., concluded with a scripture service at 6:00 p.m. Services will begin in the funeral home on Monday, May 8, 2017 with prayers at 9:15 a.m. and proceed to Gesu Catholic Church, 2049 Parkside Blvd., Toledo, for 10:00 a.m. funeral Mass. Committal services and military rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery followed by a funeral luncheon in celebration of Don’s wonderful life in the Sullivan Center at Gesu Church.
