Donald Leo Ash, 93, passed from this world April 5, 2018 surrounded by family. He passed with the optimism of a faithful servant-full of the love of Jesus Christ. He was born August 24, 1924, to Leo and Jane Ash. He lived most of his life in Maumee, Ohio, and was a devout lifetime Catholic who served the church as a boy and continued to serve as an Usher as long as he was able. Don attended Macomber High School until he was drafted to serve in the Army Corps of Engineers during WWII. After the war he returned home and married the love of his life Janice Eding. He and Janice cherished each other during 71 years of marriage. Together they raised 9 children. He enjoyed his work as a construction foreman for Ohio Bell (sometimes splicing cable 1200 pair in his sleep). He retired in 1982. Don was a lifetime member of the VFW and enjoyed boating and fishing, square dancing, and traveling. After retirement he found a passion for camping and spending his winters in warmer climates, most recently in Sebring, Florida, where he made lifelong friends. His family was always the number one priority and he was happiest when the family was gathered celebrating and sharing time together. Don is survived by his wife Janice, and children, Sharon (Robert) Kwiatkowski, Doug Ash, Charlotte Hurst, David (Sharon) Ash, Darrell (Sandy) Ash, Don Ash, Dan (Vickie) Ash, Pat Walkup, Cathy (David) Krueger, 25 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and sister, Jean Vassar. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rosemary Boyle, great-grandson Ryan Orgel, and Sons-in-laws John Hurst and Rankin Walkup. Family and friends will be received at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home on Sunday, April 8, 2018 from 3-7 P.M. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 9, 2018 at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Catholic Church at 10:30 A.M. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
