Don G. Thornton, 88, of Genoa, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Genoa Retirement Village, Genoa. He was born on April 21, 1931 in Perrysburg, OH to John and Louella (Gensline) Thornton. Don lived a long life as he was born 6 weeks premature. After high school, Don was drafted and proudly served our country in the United States Army, serving from 1953-1955 in the Korean War. After his service, Don started his career in the construction industry, starting as a bricklayer. He owned his own lumber yard and enjoyed building homes and doing remodeling projects. Don worked at The Andersons in the Woodville Mall until they closed the building materials department. On December 8, 1978, Don married Ruth Ann Brown at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Genoa. Together, they celebrated 35 wedding anniversaries until Ruths passing in December of 2013. Don is survived by his step-children, Kathy (Jim) Imbery of Northwood, Deborah (Joe) Badger of Genoa and Gregory (Rhonda) Hamilton of Bradner; 7 step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth Ann; and cousin, Carl Thornton. Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 13, 2020 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa.
