Don Hofmann of Maumee, Ohio passed March 11, 2016 at his most favorite place, his cottage at the lake. Don was born on Oct. 17, 1936 To Helen (Gibson) & Arnold Hofmann in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Don moved to Maumee when he was 8 yrs old and attended Maumee schools. He was an athlete excelling in football and baseball but his passion was hunting and fishing. Upon graduation (class of 1955) he spent 2 years in the U.S. Army and 30 years at L.O.F. During Retirement, Don was able to enjoy his hunting and fishing. He took great pleasure in including his family, friends and their friends. Oh, Don also was a golfer and had a hole in one, if you ever golfed with him dont question- it was witnessed. He took great pride in teaching the pilgrims how to, and there were sooooo many pilgrims. He cheated the grim reaper so many times from shooting himself in the leg to beating colon cancer and to battling pulmonary fibrosis. Don liked to let you think he was just a good ole boy which he was but he had such wisdom and a comforting nature that drew people to him and of course we all can recall some of his Don-isms Don was a conservationist or as a Don - ism a conversationalist. He enjoyed raising champion beagle dogs and he loved hunting with his coon dog Ben. But his greatest pride was his wife of 56 years, his 3 children, 3 grandchildren and his great-grandson. Don loved to share his passions with his grandchildren, taking Ethan, Seth and Emily hunting or watching the boys play hockey or sitting through Emilys dance recitals and volley ball. Don leaves so many memories to be enjoyed by his wife Thelma Thumper (Brainard); daughters, Vicki Hofmann, Julie (Tom) Koralewski and son Bill Hofmann of Breckenridge Co. Grandchildren Ethan, Seth, Emily and great-grand son, Levi. Also surviving is his Sister, Donna Jean Seiple and nieces, nephews, in-laws and outlaws. Dons home was never big enough for all his surrogate kids but his heart certainly was. Sam and Cindy Kaiser and the Weinbergs were his children at the lake. Fred and Mary, Matt and Zak, Kelly, Pete. His old buddies Dick, Keith, Al and his young buddies Scott and Carl. He cherished so many who touched his life. If they were your friend, they were his friend and he was grandpa to everyone. He was very lucky to have a son-in-law who in his own Tom way showed such love and care for Don, even missing boat rides just so Don wasnt alone. Don is having a reunion with his mother, Helen; father, Arnold; brother Arnold; grandma and grandpa Gibson and many close friends. Last but not least, his hero John Wayne. A celebration of life will be held on Monday March 14, 2016 at 5:00 pm at Jeds, 3531 S. Reynolds Rd., Toledo. A celebrant will conduct a brief service at 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donors choice. Arrangements have been entrusted with the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, Maumee, Ohio.
