Dolores Ann Schimming

February 21, 1936 — June 22, 2021

On June 22, 2021, Dilly went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 85. She was born on February 21, 1936 to Andrew and Mary (Gaul) Placko in Cleveland. In 1947 the family moved to Genoa. Dilly graduated from Genoa High School in 1954 and went on to graduate from Riverside Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. On September 28, 1957 she married her high school sweetheart Jim Schimming. Together they raised four children: Scott (Denise) Schimming, Tamara (Duane) Tailford, Traci (Alan) Brown, and Kristin (David) Lee. They are the grandparents of Rachel (Patrick) Hyde, Erica Brown, Kurtis and Aubrey Lee, Jeremy (Kelly) Tailford, Ryan (Jamie) Tailford, and Melissa Losie. Their great grandchildren are Donny Hyde, Paige, Kate, Lauren and Jack Sander, and Leyton and Landon Losie. Survivors include sister-in-law Veronica Placko and brother-in-law Wayne (Michaelina) Schimming. Dilly was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Edward and Donald, and in-laws Virgil and Ruth Schimming. Dilly also had a special relationship with her “Swiss” grandson, Oli Neff. Dilly was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Williston where she sang in the church choir for many years and was also an usher. Dilly was employed by the former Riverside Hospital in Toledo for 12 years after graduation and Luther Home of Mercy in Williston retiring in 2004 as Director of Nursing/Coordinator of Medical Services. She was also a member of the Riverside Alumni and Riverside Hospital Past-timers. She volunteered for many years at St. Charles Hospital. Dilly enjoyed bowling in a league for several years and playing golf. She and a small group of nurses and their spouses started the “Bed Pan Open”, which continued annually for 40 years. Dilly and Jim enjoyed traveling to Germany, Hawaii, Alaska, Switzerland, and a Caribbean cruise. Their 50th wedding anniversary was spent in the Dominican Republic with family and friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and attending the many activities and sporting events their grandchildren participated in. The annual “mystery trip”, planned by a different family member each year, was a special and fun time she looked forward to. Dilly is a 21-year survivor of peritoneal mesothelioma. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, August 7, 2021 at St. John Lutheran Church, 21140 W. Toledo Street, Williston, Ohio.
