Dolores M. David

September 7, 1950 — January 5, 2016

Dolores Marie (Peterson) David of North Manor Drive, Genoa, passed away suddenly Tuesday afternoon, January 5, 2016, at home following a four-month battle with amyloidosis, a rare kidney disease. Mrs. David was born in Toledo to parents, Carson and Bertha M. Peterson. She married Thomas P. David on June 14, 1969, and they had one child, daughter, Susan Marie (David) Hanely, who preceded her in death on September 28, 2012. Dolores was a wonderful wife and mother; thoughtful, caring, loving and fun. She is survived by her husband, Tom, sister, Margaret Peterson of Oregon, Ohio, grandson, Brad Hanely of Genoa, and many cousins. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Carson Peterson. Dolores attended Central Catholic High School and began working as a bookkeeper at the former Steins Clothing Store. She joined the former Heesen-Hascall Jewelers in the Spitzer Arcade as Credit Manager in the early sixties. Mrs. David moved to the former Toledo Trust Bank in the Credit Department in the summer of 1964, the same year Tom joined the bank following graduation from Michigan. This began a lifelong relationship, not only as husband and wife, but always as best friends. Dolores soon became a Michigan and Genoa sports fan. In 1969 bank policy did not allow married couples to both work at the bank, so Dolores worked as a secretary at Owens Corning until 1972 when her daughter, Susan, was born. Mrs. David was elected to the Board of Directors of the former Genoa Savings and Loan Company in 1981 and served fourteen years until resigning in 1995. Dolores and Tom have had Michigan football season tickets for the last forty years and have also seen many basketball, hockey, baseball, and softball games. Dolores has been to several bowl games including the 1998 Rose Bowl Game (1997 National Champions), as well as the 2013 NCAA Basketball Final Four in Atlanta. She also attended the opening ceremony of the 1996 Olympics and many of the track and field events. Dolores and Tom have had Genoa High School football and basketball season tickets since the mid seventies and followed their daughter, Susan, as she ran track and cross country at Genoa from 1988 to 1990 and for Hillsdale College from 1990 to 1994. Dolores enjoyed travel beginning with their 1969 honeymoon to Lake Louise and Banff in the Canadian Rockies. Over the years, family vacations took them to all fifty states including all of the state capitol buildings, the last a 10,500-mile drive through many of the national parks and up the Alaskan Highway and then by boat to Juneau on July 4, 1994. Her favorite destinations were always Yellowstone, Lake Louise, and Nags Head in the Outer Banks. She also enjoyed several European trips including England, Ireland, France, Germany, and Italy-especially Rome and the Amalfi Coast. Mrs. David joined St. Johns United Church of Christ in Genoa on March 23, 1986, when her daughter, Susan, was confirmed in the church. Visitation for Dolores will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, January 8 and 9, 2016, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa. The Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 10, 2016, at St. Johns United Church of Christ, Genoa, with interment to follow in Clay Township Cemetery. The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to St. Johns United Church of Christ, 1213 Washington St., Genoa, OH 43430; or the Genoa Branch Library, 602 West St., Genoa, OH 43430. When Im Gone When I come to the end of my journey; And I travel my last weary mile; Just forget, if you can, that I ever frowned; And remember only the Smile. Forget unkind words I have spoken; Remember some good I have done. Forget that I ever had heartache; And remember Ive had loads of fun. Forget that Ive stumbled and blundered; And sometimes fell by the way. Remember I have fought some hard battles; And won, ere the close of the day. Then forget to grieve for my going. I would not have you sad for a day. But in summer just gather some flowers; And remember the place where I lay; And come in the shade of evening when the sun paints the sky in the west. Stand for a few moments beside me, and remember, only my best.
