Dirk A. Lau, 48, of Toledo, Ohio, died Thursday, November 29, 2012, in his residence after a short illness. He was born in Fremont, Ohio, on September 3, 1964, to Roger R. and Sara V. Ginger Bame Lau. He attended Penta County Joint Vocational School and was a graduate of Genoa Area High School. Dirk was a carpenter and worked for various contractors in the Toledo and Lower Michigan area for many years. He was an avid and accomplished pool player. He participated in many local and national tournaments. He was also a loving father and devoted friend to many. Dirk was a former member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Bono. Survivors of Dirk include his mother, Sara Ginger Ronald Schlagheck of The Villages, Florida, son, Christian Lau, Rossford, brothers, Troy Rebecca Lau, Todd Crystal Lau of Florida, step sister, Stacie Fred Flores, Michigan, and step brother, Gary Schlagheck, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his father, Roger, grandparents, Herman and Edna Lau, and grandfather, William Bame. A funeral service for Dirk will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 4, 2012, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor, OH 43449. Visitation will be in the funeral home from 2-8 p.m., on Monday, December 3, 2012. Interment will be in the Elliston Cemetery, Elliston, Ohio. The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to Dirks son, Christians education fund, in care of the funeral home.
