Dick Huffman

Richard Dick W. Huffman, age 82, of Waterville, Ohio passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010 at St. Lukes Hospital. He was born February 28, 1928 in Toledo to Weir C. and Hazel E. Wright Huffman. Dicks career began as a teacher for Glendale Elementary in Toledo. Dick was employed with the Maumee City Schools for over 30 years, as a principal of Wayne Trail Elementary and director of special education. After retirement, Dick worked for Funk-Luedke as an office manager and served as a job coach for the Zepf Center. He was a past president of the Ohio District Elementary Principals Association. Dick served on Maumee City Council for 12 years. A faithful man, Dick was a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Maumee for over 60 years where he served as a Trustee, Vestryman and volunteered at the rummage sale. He was a director of the YMCA day camp Club Adventure, member of the Maumee Elks and very active with the Miata Club. Dick loved antiques and wood working, he and wife, Mary Lou ran the Wood-N-Stuff Antiques store on River Road. Dick and Mary Lou were also active with the Maumee Civic Theatre and Waterville Playshop. Dick loved to cook and dance but the greatest love and soulmate of his life was his wife, Mary Lou. The widower of Mary Lou Woods Huffman, Dick is survived by his children, Joseph Joyce Thorpe, Scott Karen Huffman, Terri Huffman, Kim Richard Biddle, Thomas Sherri Huffman and Beth Todd Finical; 18 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Dick was preceded in death by his grandson, Michael Rodriguez and brother, Dean Huffman. Family and friends may visit Sunday, May 23, 2010 from 2-8 pm and Monday, May 24, 2010 from 4-8 pm in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at 11:00 am at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 310 Elizabeth Street, Maumee. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Maumee.
