Diane Shaffer Breese, 81, of Toledo, OH, passed away Monday, July 4, 2016 at Heartland at ProMedica, Sylvania. Diane was born May 28, 1935 in Erie, PA to Arthur and Harriett (Kienholz) Turner. Diane attended Ohio Wesleyan University where she earned a degree in Early Childhood Education. She was an active member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. While attending, she met her first husband, David L. Shaffer, who preceded her in death in 1987. Diane taught kindergarten at Ottawa Hills Elementary School until she put her career aside to raise their three children, Debbie, Dusty, and Amy. She raised her children like she lived her life with a kind, loving, positive attitude. Diane was blessed to have met and married her current husband, Donald E. Breese. Mutual friends arranged for the two of them to meet on a blind date and they were soon married. Diane felt fortunate to gain three more children, Betsy, Bob, and Amy, into her life. Diane and Don enjoyed traveling. Among her favorite travels with Don was returning each year to Sanibel Island, FL where she enjoyed walking the beach, feeling the sunshine, while collecting shells. Diane was an active community member. She volunteered countless hours for many organizations including Delta Gamma Alumni Group, Junior League of Toledo, Toledo Symphony, Toledo Day Nursery, Ability Center, Opera Guild, and Toledo Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a past member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Sylvania Country Club, the Inverness Club, the Toledo Club, and the Toledo Yacht Club. Diane thought her greatest accomplishment was the love she had for her family, but she also had many hobbies and interests including modeling, gardening, traveling, boating, fishing, cooking, and entertaining. Left to cherish her memory and honor her beautiful life are her loving husband of 22 years, Don; her children, Debbie (David) Bishop, Dusty (Gina) Shaffer, and Amy (Dan) Schoeck; stepchildren, Betsy (John) Schiller, Bob Breese, and Amy (Toby) Maxwell; 14 grandchildren, Andy, Hillary, Mitchell, Scott (Katie), Craig, Dana, Whitney, Grant, Jessica (Dan), Abby, Adam, Gabe, Aidan, and Lilly. Diane was preceded in death by her parents and first husband. Visitation will be Saturday, July 9, 2016 from 10:00am until the time of service at 12:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.).
