Dexter Mcmaster

Dexter Herman McMaster left this world on November 6, 2023 at age 99. Dexter was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.


Dexter was born to George and Nancy (Butler) McMaster, the seventh of thirteen children, on November 5, 1924. He was married to his wife of 70 years, Marilyn Mae (Musolf) McMaster, on September 7, 1952. Dexter and Marilyn were blessed with four children, Marsha, Michael, Lynne, and Matthew, which were followed by two grandchildren Abigail and Andrew.


After high school graduation Dexter served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II. After the war, Dexter worked as a project manager and engineer in the glass industry. Dexter was credited with eight patents during his career. With the exception of some years in Derby, Kansas, Dexter and Marilyn spent most of their married life in Northwest Ohio, in particular Perrysburg since 1982. Dexter was a long time member of the Lutheran Church. Dexter’s hobbies included bowling, golf, and wood carving. Dexter enjoyed time spent with family and friends. Dexter loved being a grandfather and spending time with his two grandchildren.


Dexter was preceded in death by his parents, George and Nancy McMaster, wife Marilyn McMaster, sisters, Bertha Rutter, Hazel Larimer, Leona Schwartz, Erma Cluckey, Reva Christman, and June McMaster, brothers, Earl McMaster, Harold McMaster, Clarence McMaster, and Robert McMaster, and daughter-in-law (wife of Michael), Roetta McMaster. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Marsha and Greg Sushinsky, Michael and Blanche McMaster, Lynne McMaster, and Matthew and Linda McMaster, his grandchildren, Abigail McMaster and Andrew McMaster, and sisters, Jane Dennis and Barbee Fintel.


A memorial service will be held at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Perrysburg, Ohio on November 18 at 11:00AM. Calling hours will begin at 10:00AM prior to the memorial service. Interment will take place immediately following the memorial service at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery in Perrysburg, Ohio. A light luncheon will be served after the interment at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the memorial fund of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church.
