Dexter Gobbell

November 30, 1939 — December 31, 2025

On December 31, 2025, the good lord called on Dexter Dean Gobbell.

He was born on November 30,1939 to Earlie and Pearl (Moore) Gobbell in Waynesboro, Tennessee. He would eventually move to Rossford, Ohio with his beloved wife of 66 years Myrtle (Smith) Gobbell. There, he started and very successfully owned his own contracting business, where he worked on siding, roofing, and doors and windows installation.

He was an extremely devoted Nascar fan and was a proud Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan. On Saturdays in the fall, he would cheer for his beloved Tennessee Volunteers and was a fan of all the teams in the SEC. He served in the Tennessee Army National Guard from 1957-1965. Nothing was more important to him in this world then his family, friends, and God.

Upon moving to Ohio, he started off as member of Western Ave Church of Christ before he became a member of Echo Meadows Church of Christ. During his time at Echo Meadows, he was a Deacon, a youth group advisor, and a driver for their bus program. In 1988, he helped build Hope and Christ Church in Perrysburg where he was a member and an elder from the time they opened until the day it closed in 2019. After closing of Hope and Christ Church in Perrysburg, he returned as member of Echo Meadows Church of Christ.

Dexter is survived by his wife Myrtle (Smith), his daughters Bernadine Irelan (Ted Irelan) and Lee Ann Retar (Robert A. Boykin), his 4 grandchildren Brandon Gobbell, Tiffany Cluckey, Chris Retar, and Cody Retar. He also is survived by his 9 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
