Derek Vaughn Stender

Derek Vaughn Stender, age 28, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2014 at his home.  Derek was born June 14, 1986 in Toledo.  He married Megan Blake on June 26, 2009 and she lovingly survives. Also surviving is his beloved son, Benjamin Don; mother and step father, Stephanie and Tom Harris; father and step mother, Lon and Shelley Stender; siblings, Paige Stender, Brandon Magee, Adam and Katie Lord; maternal grandparents, Maryann Gibson and Jerry (Charlotte) Brandenberger; paternal grandparents, Marjorie and Emil Stender; and his wifes parents, Vicki and Jeff Blake. Derek graduated from Whitmer High School in 2004 and earned his Bachelors degree in Education from the University of Toledo in 2009.  He was a high school mathematics teacher for Toledo Public Schools for the past five years.  A humble, faith-filled man of God, Derek was a member of Flanders Road Church of Christ.  He enjoyed studying scripture and was involved in various Bible studies.  He was a fantastic father and found his greatest joy in spending time with his wife and son.  He will also be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and commitment to his students. Visitation will be held from 1-5 p.m. Sunday in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.).  Funeral services will be 6:00 p.m., Monday, December 22, 2014 at Flanders Road Church of Christ, 5130 Flanders Road, Toledo, where additional visitation will take place beginning at 5:00 p.m.  Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the benevolence of the family for the care of Benjamin.
