Dennis Robert Bergeman

Dennis Robert Bergeman, age 75, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away after a brief illness, on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Firelands Regional Medial Center in Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on August 12, 1947 in Fremont, Ohio to Denver and Dorothy (Sours) Bergeman.

Denny graduated from Port Clinton High School and later attended and played football at Kemper Military School and Culver-Stockton College. He earned his master’s degree in education from Bowling Green State University. Denny would go on to teach and coach at various schools including Fremont St. Joe, the University of Cincinnati, and Norwalk City Schools, from which he would retire.

Denny was a seasoned outdoorsman, spending much of his time fishing and hunting. Affectionately known by many as “Clicker,” Denny captained the boat “Can’t Miss II” while running charters on Lake Erie for 43 years.

Community was very important to Denny, as he was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Colonial Club, Elks Club, 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and Past Commodore of the Port Clinton Yacht Club

Denny is survived by his loving wife, Jeannine; daughter, Kara Merriman; son, Ryan (Bethany) Bergeman; grandchildren, Taylor, Malory, Delaney and brother, James (Vickie) Bergeman. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A gathering for family and friends will be held from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 in the Gerner-Wolf Walker Funeral Home, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton, Ohio. The funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 on Thursday, February, 23, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton, Ohio. Interment will be private.

Immediately following the service will be a Celebration of Life held at the Denny Bergeman Knights of Columbus Hall. All friends/family/community members are welcome to attend.
