Dennis Calvin Osborne, 75 of Maumee, Ohio and Garrison, Kentucky, passed away at home Sunday, December 31, 2023. He was born October 20, 1948, on the family farm in Garrison, Kentucky to Roy and Helen (Cooper) Osborne. Following his graduation from Lewis County High School, Dennis proudly enlisted and served his country in the Army. During that time, he would meet his wife of 52 years, Sue. After his military service, he enrolled at the University of Toledo in their Engineering program. One of his proudest accomplishments was the day he became an ordained minister with the Church of Christ. He spent his working career with Chrysler, General Dynamics, and retired as a Signalman and Supervisor with CSX Railroad; always with the nickname “Cowboy” because he never forgot where he came from and his roots.
The boys of Big Bang Theory were a couple of generations late in defining the genre. Dennis was a high-tech hillbilly; a geek before it was cool. He had an unapologetic love for science, computers, and technology of all kinds, tinkering and fixing things, as well as sci-fi and western novels and movies. He was an avid chess player and earned an international ranking during his service time with the Army. Dennis will be most fondly remembered due to his deep love and unwavering support for his family, including supporting his daughters through medical school and bringing his wife’s family over from Korea to begin their path to the American Dream. Anyone who knew him would be hard pressed to name anyone more patient, giving, or kind than him. You could always pick him out of a crowd by his quick and easy laugh and fun-loving way. He just had a great sense of humor and found joy in as much as he could, always living life to the fullest and never going to sleep wanting for anything. His legacy will live on by the impact he had on his family and what they carry forward with what they’ve learned from not only his words, but by his example.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife Sue (Chung) Osborne; daughters Christine (Jon) Jeffer and Victoria Kelly; grandchildren Calvin Kim, Vivian Jeffer, Angelina Kelly, and Lorelai Kelly; siblings Delilah Coe, Oval Osborne, and Janie Collins. He is preceded in death by his brothers Douglas Osborne and Daniel Osborne.
Friends & family will be received Saturday, January 6, 2023 from 1:30 to 2 PM at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home (501 Conant St. Maumee), with the funeral ceremony following immediately at 2 PM (livestreamed at www.facebook.com/WalkerFamilyFuneralHomes ).
