Denny Gloeckl

February 19, 1947 — May 26, 2024

Dennis Gloeckl, beloved father, husband, and pa went to be with the Lord on May 26, 2024, at the age of 77. He fought a long and hard battle with cancer for over a year. Denny was the son of Mary Vera Cassidy and Joseph Gloeckl. He grew up in North Toledo, the second oldest of six children. He attended Woodward High School, where he played basketball. His team won the city league championship in 1964. He enlisted in the Air Force when he found out his number was up in the lottery for the Vietnam war. He was very proud of his service and a big supporter of Veterans. He wore a red shirt every Friday for over 20 years in support of the troops.

Denny retired from Toledo Edison and Consumer Energy. Denny never met a stranger and was loved by everyone. He was a faith filled man and a long-time member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Maumee, OH. Denny loved Ohio State football, golf, basketball, trips to Vegas, his country, and volunteering at Heatherdowns Country Club.

On December 13, 1985, he had a dental cleaning appointment with a hygienist named Linda. Six months later they were married. They had a loving marriage for almost 38 years. Denny cherished being a father to Megan and Bryan and was so very proud of them. He told them every day how much he loved them. He loved coaching their CYO basketball teams for many years and assisting Bryan’s Maumee Little League teams. He loved his daughter-in-law Kimberly and son-in-law Bob. He considered them his own. But more than anything, the light of his life was his grandchildren. He loved spending time with his girls, Rylee and Reese. He was able to hold on to virtually meet his newest grandson, Jackson, born in Hawaii on May 18.

Denny is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Joe and Wyatt Gloeckl. He is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Megan (Bob) DiPippa, and Bryan (Kimberly) Gloeckl; grandchildren, Rylee, Reese, and Jackson; sister, Donna; brothers Bob (Al), Ed (Herb) Gloeckl; sisters-in-law, Rita (Pattrick) Przysiecki, and Sue Nowakowski; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
