Jesus welcomed Dennis “Denny” G. Oliver Home upon his unexpected passing on the evening of Monday, February 15, 2021, at the age of 74. Denny was born July 10, 1946 to his late parents, James and Neola Oliver, in Toledo, Ohio. As a child, Denny excelled in school, enjoyed constructing buildings and towers with Erector Sets, and dreamt of being an acrobat where he could showcase his flexibility. Denny joined the United States Air Force in 1966 and proudly served our Country, fighting to protect the nation he loved during the Vietnam War where was stationed in Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. After specializing in munitions and explosive operations for four years, Denny received an honorable discharge as a Sergeant in 1970. Following his military service, Denny went on to have a career with Ford Motors, from which he retired after over 30 years on the job. Denny was also a proud member of the UAW Local 1892 as a tool and diemaker Journeyman. Denny married his best friend and love of his life, Marilyn A. Oliver (Schreiner) on July 11, 1970. Together they raised their three beloved sons: David, Brett, and James. Denny and Marilyn were dedicated and active members of the First Baptist Church of Toledo, attending worship many times a week. They were also great advocates for Veterans, working with several organizations for causes they both believed in, such as helping veterans and their families who had been affected by Agent Orange. Denny volunteered at the Church Women United Thrift Shop to fill his days. He was also a member of the local VFW Post 2898. In his free time, Denny enjoyed reading, volunteering, singing in his church choir, catching up with friends online, and watching his favorite shows on television. He loved sports, specifically the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and Ohio State Buckeyes. Denny fought and conquered many battles with health through the years, including being diagnosed with cancer. Though he did officially beat cancer, it was not without long-lasting effects. Despite the challenges he faced, he remained positive and grateful to have won his fight against cancer and looked at every day as a gift. Denny will be remembered for his generosity, sense of humor, and love for his family. Denny is preceded in passing by his parents, James and Neola Oliver; his cherished wife, Marilyn; adored son, David; dear daughter-in-law, Alicia; and brother-in-law Kenneth. Left to cherish Denny in memory are his sister, Helen Kruse; sons, Brett (Ashton) Oliver, and James (Tracie) Oliver; grandchildren, Karen, Emma, Santos, Elliott, Eva, Matthew, Brycen, Adrianna, and Chandler; and great-granddaughter, Addalynn; as well as many other loved ones and close friends. The family will receive visitors at Walker Funeral Home on Sunday, February 28, 2021, from 2:00 to 8:00 pm. Services will take place Monday, March 1, 2021, at 11:00 am.
