Dennis Lee Bodi

Dennis Lee Bodi, 80, of Oak Harbor, OH passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022 at his home.  He was born on December 11, 1941 in Oak Harbor, OH to Isaac and Florence (Hany) Bodi.  When he was younger growing up as part of a large family, he enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing.  Dennis joined the U.S. Navy at age 17, with his parent’s permission, and served 4 years in the service, first in Texas and then on the U.S.S. Northampton.  Dennis was a machinist’s mate and a fireman on the crash crew.  He was serving his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was part of the blockade in Cuba.  Dennis met his future wife, Elna Audrene McDonald, while in the Navy in Norfolk, VA.  They went on to marry on December 26, 1963 in Michigan, and she preceded him in death on February 4, 1980.

Once Dennis got out of the Navy, he and Elna started their own family, which was very important to him.  They lived on Salem-Carroll Road, in Oak Harbor where they had purchased a home and worked to fix it up together as a family for all of them to live in.  Dennis worked for 36 years as a Boilermaker, working at American Ship Building in Toledo, Merce Industries in Toledo, and Sun Oil Refinery in Oregon, OH during shutdowns.  Fifteen years ago, he bought a farm on Portage River South Road in Oak Harbor.  Dennis loved the farm for its space and freedom.  He enjoyed cutting wood, cleaning out ditches with heavy equipment, or just enjoying being outside there.  Dennis also appreciated watching a good movie.

Dennis is survived by his son, Jimmy (Sherrie) Bodi, grandchildren, Steven (Tracy) Reutterman, Kyle (Nicole) Bodi, Klay (Tamera) Bodi, and Audrene (Chris) Tetzlaf, 8 great grandchildren, and siblings, Margaret Ireland, Irene (Tim) Feehan, Walter Bodi, Nancy Bodi, and Robert Bodi.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughters, Bonnie Brigham and Susie Bodi, and siblings, Tommy Bodi, Jack Bodi, Norman Bodi, Betty Delmain, Mildred Bradshaw, Raymond Bodi, Roger Bodi, Mary Ann Wheeler, Elizabeth Bodi and Alfred Bodi.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 3-6 p.m. at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor, OH (419) 898-3011, where funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 18, 2022.  Burial will follow in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor, OH with military graveside honors conducted.  Memorial contributions in memory of Dennis may be given to the Ottawa County Humane Society.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com .
