Delton D Opfer

August 23, 1943 — December 6, 2014

It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my father, Delton D. Opfer. He died suddenly on December 6, 2014. He was born on August 23, 1943 in Martin, Ohio to his parents Donald and June Opfer. He was a proud graduate of Genoa High School. During that time he met the love of his life, Sandra Marie Haas. In 1964 he began the job he loved as an iron worker with Local 55 where he just recently received his 50 years of service pin. Also at this time he served his country in the army and going to fight in Vietnam from 1964 to 1966 in the 25th infantry division as a SP4. When he came home he married my mother on June 17, 1967 at St. Louis Church. In 1973 they suffered the loss of my brother Chad. In 1976 I was born. After this, they were devastated with the news of my mother’s cancer scare. Though good times and bad, they were always together. In 1998 my father retired from the iron workers Local 55 and that was when he found his next love, golf. He has been a volunteer at the Bay View Retiree Golf Course. This past year, he was the course manager which he loved every moment. On July 16, 2013, he suffered the devastating loss of my mother. He was a member of Good Shepherd Church where he began going last year. He was part of the Innervision Group with mom and was the master chef at their summer parties. He always was a character, trying to make everyone laugh, making their day and not to forget that he was there. He had many friends at the golf course, and at Tim and Ed’s Bar that I know are mourning his loss as much as I am. My prayer is that he and my mother are dancing the night away, together again after 18 months apart. I will love you and miss you always. Thank-You for everything-Bear. Don’t forget to tell mom 'Hi' for me. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Chad, his wife Sandy, and brother- in- law, Thomas Haas. Left to mourn his loss are his daughter Tanya Marie Opfer, Grandchildren: John G. and Vanessa Skouroukos, Niece: Deanna (Rich) Smith, Great Niece, Ashley Smith and Great-Nephew Thomas Smith also both of whom are Delton’s God Children, along with many friends and family. The family would like to thank Station 6 and the staff at St. Charles Hospital Friends will be received in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home 701 N. Main St. Walbridge, Ohio (419-666-3121) from 2-8 Wednesday. Funeral services will be Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in Good Shepherd Church with burial to follow in Restlawn Memorial Park.
