Delois Blumer

January 29, 1926 — July 20, 2017

DeLois “Dee” Blumer DeLois (Dee) Blumer, age 91, formerly of Perrysburg Township, and currently residing in Toledo at Ohio Living Swan Creek passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017. She was the wife of James W. Blumer, a prominent glass-industry executive. Dee was born in Rochester, NY on January 29, 1926 to Edward and Alice Taylor. She married Jim Blumer on October 8, 1948, in Rochester, NY. He survives her along with their three adult children: Thomas (Barbara) Blumer, Corning, NY; Gretchen (Thomas) Gaul, Amherst, NH; and Susan (Gregory) Bergman, Simpsonville, SC. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Dee grew up in Rochester, NY, attended Brighton High School, and attended the Connecticut College for Women and the University of Rochester receiving her BA in Economics from the latter institution in 1948. “That is also where I met Jim” she would tell all of her friends. Following their marriage, the Blumers moved to Atlanta, where Jim served as a field sales manager for Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Company. They later moved to the Toledo area as well as a short time to the Pittsburgh area as he advanced to higher management positions before being named president of LOF’s Glass Division in 1980. Dee did volunteer work for the Little Sisters of the Poor and served as an aide for the Toledo Museum of Art. She was also on the Sunshine Home board of trustees. She was involved in the Perrysburg Garden Club having served as their president. The Blumer’s hold memberships at the Toledo Club, and Belmont Country Club. They also belong to All Saints Catholic Church in Rossford, Ohio. Friends will be received from 3 – 5 P.M. on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH 43551 (419-874-3133). A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 24, 2017 at All Saints Catholic Church, 628 Lime City Rd., Rossford, OH. Burial services will be private. The Blumers will receive visitors at The Toledo Club following the Mass. The family requests contributions be made to the Sunshine Home in Maumee, Ohio in lieu of flowers, or to a charity of their choice.
