Delmar (Mick) Black died peacefully on September 6, 2018. He was born in Toledo, Ohio January 5, 1928 to Vincent and Vera Black. He graduated from Whitmer High School in 1946 and then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in occupied Japan, attaining the rank of sergeant. He married Garnette (Chick) Ford in 1948. They celebrated their 65th anniversary a few months before her death in 2014. In 1957 he founded Black Equipment, Inc. and served as president until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of The Maumee Valley Petroleum Club, The Ohio Petroleum Marketers Association, and the Petroleum Equipment Institute. Mick was an avid golfer. He was a member of Giant Oaks, and for many years Highland Meadows Golf Club. He and Chick enjoyed many outings with The Great Lakes Senior Golf Association. In 1978 they began spending winters at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor, FL. They lived there permanently from 1992 until 2014 when Mick returned to Toledo. Besides his parents and wife, Mick was preceded in death by his brother Vincent L. Black and sister Margaret Updike. He is survived by daughters Suzanne (Thomas ) Dudley and Barbara (Robert) Long, sister Linda (Richard) Gill, brother Norman Black, grandchildren Margaret (Kenneth) Crosley, Mary (Matthew) Brandman, Ryan Davidson, Rodney (Sarah) Davidson, step grandchildren Thomas M. Dudley and Jill (Larry) Heiserman and nine great grand grandchildren. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, September 12 from 2-8 pm at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Avenue (west of Corey Road). A funeral mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Thursday at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to The Alzheimers Association or The American Cancer Society.
