Delila was born in Toledo, Ohio on December 13, 1925, the fourth of five girls born to Ethel and Robert (Roy) Steward. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 27 years, Donald P. Schuette; her parents, and three sisters, Florence Schutt, Gladys Sherwood, and Dorothy Peth. She is survived by her beloved son, Martin L. Sonntag; sister, Ruth Ziethlow; stepdaughters, Pamela Warley, and Donna Flaczinski; nieces, Joan (Karl) Wagenknecht, Terri Hamilton, and Vicki Caldwell; and several more nieces and nephews.
Delila graduated from Rossford High School in 1943. Employed by Owens-Illinois for 39 years, she began as a statistical typist in the Accounting Department and later was an Executive Secretary in the Kimble Division. In 1966, she was named Credit Clerk of Foreign Sales and from there progressed through the ranks to become Director of Corporate Credit. She retired in 1982.
In 1979, she received the Executive Award from the National Association of Credit Management at The Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth, and in 1980 she was given the honor of being the Owens-Illinois representative to the Toledo Women in Industry (TWIN).
She and her husband, Don, moved to Florida in 1983, where they enjoyed golfing, dancing, traveling, and cruising. She also enjoyed bowling, reading, and working on the computer.
Family and friends may visit Wednesday, September 20, 2023, from 4-7 pm at Walker Funeral Home, 5515 Sylvania Ave. Delila will be laid to rest privately in Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Delila’s memory to Mom’s House of Toledo.
