Delbert Stoddard

June 6, 1929 — May 2, 2024

Delbert Stoddard, 94, of Toledo, Ohio passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024. He was born June 6, 1929, in Bushnell, Illinois to the late Homer and Bernadine Stoddard. Delbert graduated from Jacksonville High School and later attended Illinois College. He served in the army in Germany during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class in the 28th Infantry Division.

Following his time in the military, Delbert served an apprenticeship as a tool and die maker, which included work on the design and development of electrifying tools and equipment. This led to managing manufacturing operations at various companies in and out of the Toledo area.

Outside of work, Delbert was a kind and caring husband and father. He married Eula “Dottie” Hayes, and they spent the next 72 years together until her passing in June 2023. Together they raised two children. He enjoyed many trips to Gatlinburg, Tennessee and winter trips to Florida. In his free time he enjoyed building model trains, the daily winding of his many mechanical clocks, and listening to his vintage Edison records. Delbert was always a gentleman and easy to talk to. He will be remembered and missed for his calm nature and easy conversations.

Delbert is survived by his children, Michael (Megan) Stoddard, and Lisa Ballard; grandchildren, Brandon Stoddard, Kathryn (Ross) Morgan; Christopher (Lauren) Ballard and Amy Ballard; his three great-grandchildren, Millie, Maxwell, and Pierce; siblings, Beverly Brummett, and Judy (Bill) Patton. Delbert was preceded in death by his wife, Eula “Dottie” Stoddard; and son-in-law, N. Scott Ballard.

Services for Delbert will be held at a date to be determined in his hometown of Jacksonville, Illinois. Professional services provided by the Walker Funeral Home.
