DeEtta Mae Kunz, of Genoa, passed away at the age of 98, on January 29, 2022. She was currently living at the Genoa Retirement Village. DeEtta was born in Clay Center, Ohio on July 28, 1923, the daughter of Albert E. and Anna C. (Jensen) Shessler. After graduating from high school, she met Walter R. Kunz and on April 12, 1947, they were married in Paulding, Ohio. They were married for 52 years until his death on July 29, 1999.
DeEtta had worked for the F.W. Woolworth Co. in Toledo, Ohio for a number of years, the last several years she worked with her twin sister who also worked for Woolworths. She was always active starting with volunteering at the East Side Central School with the PTA and Mother’s Club. She enjoyed bowling for many years on the East Toledo Mother’s Club bowling league and continued to bowl into her eighty’s. Golfing was also a passion for her and anyone who golfed with her knew they had to hustle to keep up!
DeEtta is survived by her son, Terry R. Kunz and her twin sister, Delores M. Shessler along with a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; brothers, Alvey & Lyle Shessler; sisters, Alice Shessler, Alberta Meyer, Margaret Williams, and Ruth Kozina; and not to forget, her beloved grand dog, Maggie.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 7, 2022, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, with visitation from 9:00-11:00, prior to the service. Interment will be in the Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. or the Donor’s Choice.
