Dean Marsh, 93, of Genoa, Ohio and formerly of Williston, Ohio, died Sunday, October 24, 2010 in Mercy St. Charles Hospital, Oregon, Ohio after a brief illness. Dean was born in Rocky Ridge, Ohio on February 9, 1917 to Sherman and Myrtle Mae Dysinger Marsh. On November 24, 1938 Dean married Hazel D. Buss in St. Peter Lutheran Church, Martin, Ohio and she survives. Dean had worked for the former Standard Oil Company for 44 years retiring in 1980 as a supervisor. Dean was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran church in Williston, Ohio. Over the years Dean served in almost all of the leadership positions at the church along with more than 25 years on church council. He also served as the first lay Church Council President. Dean was active in the Allen Township community. He was a charter member of the township zoning board and served as its commissioner for 25 years. He was a charter member and served on the Allen Township Volunteer Fire Dept. for 15 years. Dean was a member of the Ottawa County Board of Elections for 64 years serving from 1941-2005. In his spare time, Dean was an avid golfer and was a member of the Chippewa Golf Club for over 50 years. He was also a member of the clubs Hall of Fame and for several years he set up and coordinated tournaments for the club. Other pastimes Dean enjoyed were fishing and tending his vegetable garden. Survivors include his wife of over 71 years, Hazel, sons, Douglas Sally Marsh, Robert Shirley Marsh, daughter, Sharon Gene Ballantyne, 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers and 2 sisters. A funeral service for Dean will be conducted at 11 AM, Thursday, October 28, 2010 in St. John Lutheran Church, 21140 W. Toledo St. Willliston, OH. Interment will follow in the Elliston Cemetery, Elliston, OH. Visitation will be conducted from 2-4 6-8 PM, Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 501 West St. Genoa, OH. A firemans service will be conducted at 7 PM, Wednesday evening in the funeral home. The family suggests that memorials in Deans memory be directed to St. John Lutheran Church or the Allen-Clay Joint Fire District, Station #1, P.O. Box 154. Williston, OH.
