Dean W. Howard Jr., age 88, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026. He was born on September 19, 1937, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Dean W. Howard Sr. and Virginia (Davis).

Dean was the former owner of the Oberlin News Tribune, where he dedicated many years to serving his community through journalism. He was widely respected not only for his professional accomplishments but also for the integrity and dignity with which he carried himself throughout his life.

An avid fisherman, Dean found great joy on the water and took pride in sharing his knowledge with others. He loved teaching and mentoring, leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to learn from him.

Dean is survived by his beloved wife, Mary C. Howard; his children, Lisa (Don) Burke and Cary (Stacey) Howard; his grandchildren, Kristina, Melissa, Jamie, and Christian; and his great-grandchildren, Emma, Troy, Landon, Harper, Charlie, and Maxwell.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton, Ohio. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m.
