Dean Edwin Crandall, 81, of Oak Harbor, OH passed away Thursday, March 17, 2023 at his residence with his wife, Marilyn by his side. He was born on June 20, 1941 in Toledo, OH to Thomas and Elnora (Dier) Crandall. Dean inherited a family when he married Marilyn (Kertis) Crisologo and her children, Joe (Kristina) Crisologo and their daughter, Alexia Crisologo, John (Kristina) Crisologo and their children, Max, Maggie, and Olivia Crisologo, and Nadine Crisologo and her son, Nathan Harger. He loved being with family and all their pets.
Dean was a skilled woodcrafter. He lovingly worked with any kind of wood and created beautiful useful items for their home and for others. This included crosses, candle sticks, tables, jewelry boxes, rolling pins, and walking sticks. He had collections of cameras, pocket watches, and canes. He cherished his Arabian horses, he had 27 of them over the years. He treasured his Mazda Miata’s, and enjoyed spending time in his apple orchard from which he made and sold apple cider from the windfalls. Marilyn will miss his companionship the most. He drove everyday with Marilyn for Tete A Tete talks, looked forward to his Friday night dinners with his Kozy Corners group, appreciated their church breakfast group friends, who faithfully brought Communion to Dean at home, and he enjoyed taking Amtrak to Crystal Lake, IL to visit family. He also loved his early days of spending time with Karen’s family for holidays. Dean will be remembered as a kind, loving man who did so much for so many. His faith meant a great deal to him.
In addition to his loving wife, Marilyn and her family, Dean is survived by his sister, Karen (Richard) Smiejek, nephews, Jeffrey (Kim) Smiejek and Timothy Smiejek, grand nieces & nephews, Stella Smiejek, Wilson Smiejek, and Siena Smiejek. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Elnora (Dier) Crandall. Betty, their labradoodle, became a cherished part of their family in 2021. She stayed by Dean’s side faithfully watching over him.
