On January 18, 2026, we lost a pillar of our family, Dawn G. Crosby. A loving wife, sister, aunt, great aunt and friend, who fought the good fight so valiantly and on her terms. Dawn was a very strong and determined person who always put her family first. We all considered her the leader of the "pack." If anyone needed a helping hand, she was the first in line and no obstacle was too big to overcome.
Dawn was born on October 25, 1958, in Hartford, Kentucky, the first of three daughters of David & Palma (Phelps) Weyandt. She was raised in Genoa and graduated from Genoa High School in 1976. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University in 1980. Dawn always had a strong leadership quality and throughout her working life she used it to make life better for everyone. She had started her career as a store manager for Lane Bryant and later in the HR department of Fifth Third Bank.
On November 11, 1995, Dawn met the true love of her life, Richard "Rick" Crosby and on November 8, 1997, they were married in Elliston, Ohio. There was never a more perfect couple which complimented each other to a "T". She joined Rick in the family business, Crosby Equipment Company, for the next 25 years, working to make a wonderful life together. They valued their customers and the life-time friendships formed during those years.
Dawn and Rick loved to travel and enjoyed spending time in Florida. They traveled by car and always looked for the "mom & pop" places to stop for a bite to eat and make new friends. Our annual family vacations in North Carolina started at Cody Creek for dinner and continued with fun, beach time, food and long golf cart rides. Dawn's sisters coached softball for many years, and she was their biggest fan, always there helping and keeping the stats. The girls on the team loved the parties hosted by Dawn and Rick at their home in the country.
Dawn had a voracious appetite for reading and if she was at rest, she had her Kindle in hand. Her library had thousands of books which she gladly shared. When it came to sports, she was an avid fan of Michigan Softball and Ohio State Football and was on top of all the latest sports happenings.
Dawn is survived by her husband Rick, sisters, Denise (Mitch) Hoyles and Dana Weyandt. While Dawn and Rick had no children of their own, their nephew, Tyler (Amanda) Hoyles and niece, Mackenzie (Matt) Forry, who always referred to her as "Aunt Dawnie", were as close or closer than any children could be to a set of parents. In 2023 a great-nephew, Nash Forry was born and in 2025, Bowen Forry came along, which only deepened her love for her family. Her parents, David and Palma Weyandt preceded her in death.
It was Dawn's request that her funeral service be private and her family will honor that wish. The Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory of Genoa is assisting with arrangements. Her burial has taken place at the Clay Township Cemetery in Genoa. In keeping with Dawn's lifetime of giving, the family suggests memorial contributions be to the Allen-Clay Joint Fire District, Station #36, Genoa, Ohio or the Genoa Food Pantry.
