David Zilba

December 14, 1948 — April 21, 2013

David Michael Zilba, age 64, of Toledo, Ohio passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at home. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Dave could be found at the grandchildrens sporting or Cub Scout events on the weekends, doing drive bys to drop in on his daughters, viewing the latest movie or showing of his dance moves at family weddings. Dave loved music, and even though he didnt sing, he often whistled and thrummed his fingers to anything from James Brown to Big Band music. Davids passions were muscle cars and old school Cadillacs. His favorite past time was tinkering with these toys and making sure they shined like mirrors. He enjoyed car shows, made sure that his 1992 Chevy Truck had its engine roaring and was polished to perfection. His most frequent spot would be every Friday night at Parkway Plaza. He touched so many lives that it would take a book the thickness of the New York phonebook to name everyone. You cant walk into a place of business where someone didnt know him or know of Dave. He was known to all as Big D or My Man. He was a physically strong and powerful man who wasnt known to be delicate. As a young man he liked to show off his brute strength by lifting the rear ends of autos to the awe of those watching. He was a true gentle-giant though, unless it came to helping to you move your possessions. Dave was always available to help out a friend, whether it was a ride to Detroit Metro at 4:00 a.m. or moving them into a new house or apartment. Anyone who asked for his help knew, however, that unless their possessions were packed to withstand a Category 5 Hurricane, they might not be recognizable after Dave handled them. Regardless, his genuine offer to help made the replacement costs insignificant. Big D will be dearly missed by all who had privilege to meet him including his close cousins George Zilba, Sr., Jeff Zilba and Brandon Zilba. Even though he peeled out of here without warning, the stories and laughs he left will live forever. Dave is survived by his wife, Anita Siravo; daughters, Melissa Evan Van Horn, Amy Eric Carroll; Alexandra Dan Denton Zilba; Jennifer Zilba and Kasandra Raol Luna; grandchildren: Austin, Mackenzie, and Mya Carroll; Jacob, Brody, Arianna Van Horn and Kain and Baby Luna. Also surviving are sisters, Kathrine Zilba and Helen Cain; brothers, Charles Rosie, Jay Becky; Jan Phyllis; mother-in-law, Virginia Siravo and good friend, Mike Baldwin. He was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Louise Putz Zilba; son, Nicholas and sister, Jameelah Salahin. Friends may visit the family on Friday, April 26, 2013 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St.Patricks of Heatherdowns, 4201 Heatherdowns, Toledo, Ohio on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 10 a.m. Prayers will begin at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
