David L. Schmidlin, age 77, of Genoa, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Born on July 26, 1947, to Kenneth and Romayne (Long) Schmidlin in Genoa, David served his country in the United States Army from 1966-1968 at Fort Eustis, Virginia. On January 11, 1969, he married the love of his life, Marlaine (Lusk), at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Genoa. She preceded him in death.
David dedicated 40 years to Chrysler Manufacturing, retiring in 2008. Known for his infectious laughter and love for jokes, he had a remarkable ability to bring joy to those around him. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his free time, David enjoyed traveling with his wife, watching murder mysteries, Hallmark movies, and game shows.
He is survived by his son, Matt (Daveda) Schmidlin; daughter, Sarah (John) Smith; grandchildren, Christopher, Shane, and Chase Schmidlin, and Jordan, Lynndsay, and Zane Smith; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Zayden, Minah, and Chevelle Schmidlin, and Lyla and Alexander Smith; and many friends and neighbors. David is also preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Schmidlin; sister, Kay Recker; and his parents.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1213 Washington Street, Genoa, Ohio 43430. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM, with a meal for friends and family afterward.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ – Genoa or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. David will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
