David I Roberts

David Irving Roberts, 73, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2022 at McLaren St. Luke’s Hospital in Maumee, Ohio due to breathing complications from Parkinson’s. He was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1948 to Ellis and Helen Roberts. In 1967, he joined the United States Navy and served for 4 years, after which he was honorably discharged. He married Pamela Gayle (Bode) in 1972.  Dave then worked in various capacities at Champion Spark Plug Company for 23 years, earning both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in business from the University of Toledo while employed there. In 1990, he began his service with the Lutheran Orphans’ and Old Folks’ Home Society (now Genacross Lutheran Services) of Toledo, Ohio as Assistant to the Executive Director. In 1994, he was installed as the Executive Director. He served as Executive Director/CEO for 20 years until his retirement in 2014. After retiring, Dave and Pam continued their shared hobby of sailing on Lake Erie and then enjoyed numerous cruises in the Caribbean and elsewhere. Most importantly, Dave loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was a faithful student of the Word until the day he passed away into the arms of his Savior.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Pamela Gayle (Bode) Roberts; two daughters and their spouses: Stacy and Jason Everetts of Columbus, Ohio, Stephany and Eric Blair of Novi, Michigan; grandchildren Grace [Nick] Safiedine, Charlotte Blair, Mary Everetts, Ellis Blair, Thomas Everetts, Andersen Blair; siblings Myrna Ritterling of Napoleon, Ohio, Catherine Polsdorfer of Powell, Ohio, Nelson Roberts of Toledo, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home at 5155 W. Sylvania Ave, Toledo, Ohio 43623 and will be followed by a funeral service at 12:30 p.m. officiated by the Rev. Dr. James Dumke. Family will join for a private committal service with military honors at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to Genacross Lutheran Services Foundation – Staff Benevolence Endowment, 2021 N. McCord Rd, Toledo, Ohio 43615.
