David Wayne Ridenour

April 15, 1935 — March 12, 2008

David Wayne Ridenour, age 72, of Holland Ohio, passed on into the next life March 12, 2008 after a long tough courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his family. David was born April 15, 1935 to Lloyd and Ann Ridenour in Dearborn Michigan. After growing up in Delphos, Ohio, David became a proud member of the United States Army and served in the demilitarized zone in Korea. A long term commercial banker and graduate of the ABA National Installment Credit School and Stonier Banking School, Dave spent 30 years at The First National Bank of Toledo. He moved on to Ohio Citizens Bank that became National City of NW Ohio for another ten years, and retired as an Executive Vice President. He was always proud of the people and businesses that he supported and enjoyed watching the enterprises that he helped others create or grow. Many customers became dear lifelong friends. Dave served on many boards or organizations including Crosby Gardens, later known as The Toledo Botanical Garden, and the Boy Scouts of America. He also taught many American Institute of Banking classes for many years. After retirement he thoroughly enjoyed volunteering and working with SCORE, Counselors to Americas Small Business, providing business advice to entrepreneurs. Dave was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish, including right out of his back door. He taught his boys to respect and enjoy the outdoors and he could not wait for his next fishing trip to some far off Northern Canadian river with his steel buddies or the Florida mangroves and Keys. Dave was long time member of Rockwell Springs Trout Club. Bird hunting was another favorite pastime and he always looked forward to an outing or a trip to some Southern locale with his pals. He loved to play golf and developed many close relationships enjoying all of these activities. Dave loved to head West every year to visit his sons Ridenour Ranch and gaze across the Wyoming landscape. He also enjoyed long talks with his daughter and great joy was brought to him by her two young girls and he truly regretted he would not see them grow up. Dave was an active member of the Hidden Harbour Home Owners Association and absolutely enjoyed spending time floating around the lake and fishing every day he could. He was a very active member of Providence Lutheran Church and truly appreciated the community support during this difficult time. Dave is survived by his loving wife Shirley Miller, sons Mark Karen of Sylvania, OH, Michael Cinthia of Yoder, Wyoming, daughter Marna Eric Ward of Perrysburg, OH. He was extremely proud of all of his grandchildren and will be sorely missed by Stephanie, Lauren, Megan, Trent, Mary, Chelsea, and Jocelyn as well as in-laws Betty Ridenour and Judith and Ron Diener. Nieces and Nephews, Kathy Fred Leigh, Robert Elaine Ridenour, and Kevin Jen Kopfman, William Kim Kopfman. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert, and niece Kelly Kopfman. Visitation will be at the Walker funeral Home at 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo, OH 43623 on Friday March 15, 2008 from 3 to 8 PM. A memorial service will be held at Providence Lutheran Church 8131 Airport Highway, Holland on Saturday March 15, 2008 at 11 AM. Internment will be at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the Good Samaritan Fund at Providence Lutheran Church that provides food for needy community members. At the end of the day when the reality of finality sets in, the body has fought the good hard fight, it is time for the mind to rest. We all celebrate his passing as he finally made it. Job well done. When counseled that the Lord will show the way he responded he always has. God speed to all.
