David P. Kubasek

March 8, 1957 — February 5, 2023

When Dave entered heaven unexpectedly on that February 5th 2023 morning, he was with his wife Pam at their home in Port Clinton and it was ironic that it was 10 years to the day that their heart dog, Peanut, left them to await the first of her owners to arrive over that famous Rainbow Bridge. Peanut and Belle, his faithful hunting companion, couldn’t hardly contain themselves. While we; his wife Pam, his mom, his family and his close friends shudder with tears and disbelief of his passing, Dave’s faithful friends whole bodies shook with delight as they wagged their tails so hard in greeting!

David Paul Kubasek, born March 8, 1957 in Port Clinton, Ohio spent his life quietly becoming that ‘Go To’ guy we now don’t know what we are going to do without. He had well over 40 years in the marine mechanical business. The loss of his experience and expertise will be felt by our local group of boaters whom are proud to call him friend and that for years looked to him for guidance and repairs.

Except for the year interruption when Dave needed money to make a down payment on his and Pam’s first house; he always had a boat. Dave and Pam spent many an afternoon of their lives together in his favorite fishing hole(s), and no, he did not make any of these locations known to us! He had many hobbies, and you must see to appreciate, but we marvel at his amazing abilities as he applied a complex paint pattern to match boat and trailer when refinishing his latest classic antique and he carried that same creativeness and detail into the incredible and painstaking stained glass creations he made.

But what did Dave REALLY like to do? The hunting community has a strong connection with nature, almost a reverence for the animals they pursue. Dave had virtually an unmatched passion for the outdoors. He spent hours and hours alone in the woods; striving to understand nature and animals and just plain ‘soaking it all in’. Deer blinds and walking the fields for pheasants and other upland birds… mornings or afternoons at the hunt club, sharing stories; he was at ‘home’. He loved his dogs, Belle who is not longer with us, and most recently, his new pup, Andy, would be found riding shotgun in his truck or car and when at home, curled up in his lap on the chair. A measure of Dave’s worth with these animals, is actually not how much he cared, but, how much they loved him and his soft spoken words. …. and ummmmm… when it comes to hunting… did we mention Dave was a pretty good shot?

Going to the same high school and marrying in 1982, Dave and Pam through their lives, experienced that close and comfortable relationship we all seek. Grief is really painful and has no timeline. What can be said about Dave, is that through his life-long associations with people, that he himself whom always made himself available to help someone in need; has left Pam with an amazing group of friends that will come help at the drop of a hat and will for years to come, share stories of the past and remember his life and her as his love. He will be truly missed by all.

Dave is survived by his loving wife Pamela S. (Lakin) Kubasek, mother Donna J. (Hummel) Stewart, sister Diane (Kubasek) Keegan and husband Thomas Keegan, sister; Debra (Kubasek) Ballard, brother; Harold Kubasek Jr., sister-in-law; Jennifer (Lakin) Orosz, sister-in-law; Patricia Lakin, Niece; Danielle Lakin, Nephew; Benjamin Lakin and Quinton Orosz and Great-Nephew; Lucas Russell. He is preceded in death by his father; Harold J. Kubasek Sr., Step-Father; Orlyn Stewart and brother-in-Law Danny Lakin and paternal grandparents and maternal grandparents.
