David John Modene

David J. Modene, 81, of Perrysburg, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. David was born May 23, 1934 in Kasson, Minnesota to John G. and Doris (Smedahl) Moden. David earned an Associate’s Degree at Bethany Lutheran College, then continued his education to receive Bachelor Degrees in History and Economics from the University of Minnesota in 1959. He married Judith A. Wold on February 2, 1958 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. David was a general agent for Aid Association for Lutherans, where he received numerous awards. He retired in 1999 after over 30 years of service. David will be remembered for organizing the Christmas Poinsettia and Easter Lily Programs which were held to benefit Lutheran Churches and organizations. He was a member of Zoar Lutheran Church in Perrysburg, and enjoyed boating on Lake Erie. Along with his wife, Judith, David is survived by his sons, Jonathan D. (Jean) Modene and David J. Modene; grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew, Hannah, Justin, Megan, Mary Judith and Jennifer, and siblings, Marlene (Darrel) Tollefson and Gary (Mary) Moden. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Nancy Modene. Friends will be received Wednesday, July 1, 2015 from 4-8 P.M. at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419-874-3133) Visitation will continue at 10 A.M. Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Zoar Lutheran Church, 314 E. Indiana Ave, Perrysburg, 43551 where services will begin at 11 A.M., with Pastor Chuck Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Meigs Union Cemetery.
