David Mike Mcnamee

January 30, 1951 — July 28, 2019

David Michael Patrick McNamee passed away, Sunday, July 28, 2019 after fighting a courageous battle against cancer. Mike was an avid fan of the University of Michigan, New England Patriots and the Boston Bruins. Mike was full of excitement on a fall Friday night since it usually meant waking up at dawn on Saturday to head to Ann Arbor for a Michigan football game with some of his favorite people, Bill, A.J., Pepper, Chris, Mimi, Tracy, Mike, Matt, Sean, Alexa, Kelly, Mario, Hannah, Bryanna, Nick, Ryan, Jana, and Rob. Always in attendance with him at these games was his best friend and daughter, Amanda who also loved attending the Marathon Golf Classic with him each year for the last thirty years. Mike really enjoyed golfing with his friends and getting his daily ESPN fix. He so treasured his time hilariously bantering back and forth with his son, Joe on afternoon visits. He attended Rosary Cathedral where he was awarded the special honor of being a Bishops Server with Mike Mahoney which later they found pretty amusing considering the were both screw offs. He attended Central Catholic High School where he made a lot of lifelong friends, graduating in 1969. In 1970, he joined the Army National Guard where he served as an MP. His favorite MP stories were about his time guarding the moon rock or nearly being stabbed in the eye by a pork chop bone. He was a great storyteller and most of his stories revolved around his best friends, Tommy (Neeber) Neeb and Bill (Zig) Zak or his antics while being a part of the “Dirty Dozen”…oh the stories they could tell! Mike worked as a Warehouse Manager for Heidelberg Distributing for three years, a Receiving Manager for Wonder Bread for sixteen years and  Operations Manager at Ohio Flower Foods for five years. He worked up until last year when he had his emergency surgery and received his cancer diagnosis. He married Janet Benner in 1976 and they had two beautiful children, Amanda and Joe who he adored. He married the love of his life, Donna Schoenhofer in 1996 where he gained two wonderful sons, Chris and Joe. Mike and Donna enjoyed traveling to the Upper Peninsula each year to stay at a cabin on the lake where they always felt renewed. Donna and Mike were never separated a day in their 23 years of marriage. Mike had a love for life and great sense of humor which both helped him immensely during his fight against cancer. He often referenced a famous quote from Jimmy Valvano’s “Don’t Ever Give Up” speech as inspiration, “Cancer can take away all my physical abilities. It cannot touch my mind, it cannot touch my heart and it cannot touch my soul. And those three things are going to carry on forever.” We would like to thank Dr. Otaibi and Dr. Al-nsour for their dedication to Mike. The family is eternally grateful to them for extending Mikes life as long as possible and giving them more time with him.Thank you to all the doctors and nurses who took good care of him with a special thank you to his favorite nurse at St. Annes, Chelsey Keller and his favorite home health nurse, Chris Solly. Mike is survived by his wife of 23 years, Donna, daughter; Amanda, son; Joe, stepsons; Chris (Mimi) and Joe (Maria) Tumasian. He is also survived by his brother; Steve (Kelly) McNamee, step-mother; Phyllis Allman and sister-in-law; Barb McNamee along with seven grandchildren and several special nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his loving mother; Marilyn Condon McNamee, his father; William McNamee, his uncle; Thomas McNamee and his best friend and brother; Bill McNamee. Visitation will be held at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo on Friday, August 2, 2019 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, with a Scripture Service at 7:00 pm.
