David James McCauley age 74 of Swanton passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2015 in St. Lukes Hospital. He was born August 28, 1941 in Toledo to James and Orpha (Sodd) McCauley. A 1960 graduate of Libby High School, he was past Chief of Police for Swanton, then a chief investigator for Toledo Edison and retired from Ford Motor Company as Security Supervisor. While in law enforcement he established SEPA, was a past commander of Swanton Police Academy and was the VFW Peace Officer of the Year in 1978. Active in CYO and athletics he was CYO Commissioner for football, and coached football, girls basketball, baseball and track and field. Dave was the CYO girls basketball coach of the year, a recipient of the CYO Football Sportsmanship Award and coached the Toledo Fury Womens Football to a World Championship. He was also a former member of the Knights of Columbus and a huge Notre Dame Football fan. Preceded in death by his parents; son Timothy McCauley and brother Charles McCauley, he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen; daughters Michelle (Drew Slomka) McCauley Roscoe, Shawn (Craig Kennedy) McCauley and Kim (John) Downey; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers Anthony and Joseph (Cindy) McCauley; and sisters Catherine and Donna McCauley. Friends may visit at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey) on Friday from 2-8 PM where a Scripture Service will be held at 7 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday after 9 AM in St. Richardss Church 333 Brookside Dr. Swanton where the funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 AM. Interment to follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials to Swanton Rescue Squad or the Disabled American Veterans.
