David M. Joseph

David M. Joseph passed away on Tuesday, August 11th, in his home after a valiant 3 ½ year battle with cancer. He was born on November 16, 1961, the youngest of 5 sons in the George and Corrine (Darah) Joseph family. He attended Maumee Valley Country Day School, graduated from Southview High School and attended the University of Toledo where he was a beloved brother of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity.

Keeping with family tradition, he began working at Joseph's Supermarkets at a young age. As a natural entrepreneur, David owned several companies but his primary work remained with the Josephs. David spent his days at Joseph's Beverage Center where he became a true cornerstone of the day-to-day business. His hard work and dedication were evident in everything he did, including playing an instrumental role in the 2017 renovation of the store. More than simply a place of work, Joseph's Beverage Center was a deeply meaningful part of David's life and a place where he made a lasting impression. If not at the store, David was working side by side with his brothers as partners of Joseph's Real Estate Companies.

David was a lifelong member of St. George Antiochian Cathedral where he served on the Church Board and was a member of the Endowment Committee. As a highly respected and active member of the church community, David was deeply involved with the Church's annual summer festival and proudly served as the top ticket seller each year for the Ladies' Benevolent Society dinner. If David was calling you in October, there was a good chance you wouldn't get off the phone without purchasing a few dinner tickets - a familiar voice many came to expect each fall.

David had a larger-than-life personality. He was a cigar aficionado, a bourbon collector and enjoyed fine wines. While he didn't have a wine cellar, he had the keys to Joseph's Beverage Center which was even better! David held immense respect for tradition and family, and had a talent for entertaining. Following in his parents' footsteps, David hosted an annual "wine dinner" in November, featuring fine wine, premium cigars and delicious food from The Beirut Restaurant.

David loved to cook and entertain in his back yard, where family and friends often gathered. He especially enjoyed barbecuing ribs, and an ongoing family debate remained over whether David or his brother Brad made the better ribs. He was also a devoted fan of University of Toledo football and basketball and proudly cheered for Ohio State. Later in life he enjoyed traveling to Marco Island, Florida, carrying on yet another tradition first started by his parents.

David was blessed with 4 children who survive him, David M. (Jamie Spencer), Samantha (Nick Carmony), Valerie, and Joshua (Mychal Naylor). He took great joy in his grandchildren, Chloe, David III, and Leo, and was eagerly looking forward to the birth of his 4th grandchild this fall. Also surviving are his brothers G. Christopher (Regina), Bradley (Elizabeth) and Craig (Michelle) and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Paul who undoubtedly met him at the Pearly Gates with the same big smile and warm embrace that so many remember.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 14th from 2:00 – 8:00 PM at St. George Antiochian Cathedral, 3754 Woodley Rd, Toledo, where a Trisagion Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday, August 15th from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 at St. George Antiochian Cathedral. Internment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to St. George Antiochian Cathedral.
