The Man, The Myth, The Legend

David John Reed passed away on January 13, 2026. David was born on November 14, 1950, in the Ironville neighborhood of East Toledo to Frank and Frances (Srock) Reed.

A 1969 graduate of Cardinal Stritch High School, David was a natural athlete who left his mark on both the football field and the wrestling mat. His love for the game never faded; he remained a lifelong, die-hard fan of the Cleveland Browns and Notre Dame football, watching as many games as he could possibly find on the schedule.

On July 25, 1981, David married Doris, and together they built a life centered on family and simple pleasures. David was a man who appreciated a good meal, especially if it came off the grill. He was frequently heard declaring, "Fat is where it is at," while carving into a perfectly cooked steak.

While he took pride in his roots and his hobbies, his favorite role was being a grandfather. He didn't just spoil his grandkids; he mentored them in the "essential" life skills, including the secrets of hunting a Snipe and the proper way to "hock a loogie." His sense of humor and legendary status will be deeply missed by those who knew him best.

David is survived by his wife of 44 years, Doris; his children, Davis (Carrigan) Reed and Lily (Bo) Young; and his three grandchildren, Mason, Lila, and Izik. He is also survived by his sister, Cynthia (John) Lucas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Frank Reed Jr.

In accordance with David's wishes, services will be private.
