David Julian Haase, 81, of Toledo, Ohio died peacefully May 6, 2022, at StoryPoint in Waterville. David was born on July 22, 1940, in Toledo to George and Adelaide (Kopitke) Haase. David graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1958 and Purdue University in 1964. After graduation, David served a tour of duty for the US Navy. Following his discharge, David was a pilot for Trans World Airlines (TWA) from 1966 to 2000. He captained hundreds of commercial flights across the US and overseas. As a prominent member of the Air Line Pilots Association, David was a tireless advocate for flight safety, working closely with airlines and the federal government to improve policies and practices for safer flights for everyone.
After retiring from TWA, David obtained his MBA from the University of Toledo and engaged in private business with his brother thereafter. David’s interests included biking, reading, and genealogy. He was a car enthusiast and an intrepid traveler, visiting many countries in Europe, Latin America, and Asia.
David was a friendly, good natured, and considerate person, as well as a loving son, brother, and uncle. He is survived by his niece, Sharon (Resultan); and nephews, Randy and Dwight. David was preceded in death by his brother, Fred.
Friends will be received from 9:00 -11:00 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2022 at Walker Funeral Home , 5155 W. Sylvania Ave, Toledo, Ohio. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the same location with Pastor Beth Irwin officiating. The family wishes to thank all those at StoryPoint, Laurus Home Care, Elara Caring, Genacross Lutheran Services-Wolf Creek, the University of Toledo Medical Center, and Epworth United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Purdue University in David's honor.
