David Robert Greenawalt

December 3, 1969 — January 25, 2021

David Robert Greenawalt, age 51, of Maumee, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 25, 2021. He was born on December 3, 1969 in Clarion, Pennsylvania and graduated in 1988 from Liverpool High School in New York. Soon after graduating high school, he moved to Williamsburg, Virginia to begin his career at Owens-Illinois. While there, he met the love of his life, Michelle, and they wed on August 21, 1993. Two short years later the couple and their daughter moved to Maumee, Ohio where Dave continued his career with OI and where they added two sons to their family. After 16 years, Dave decided it was time to move on from OI. In 2006, he started working as a Manufacturing Engineering Technician at First Solar. Dave earned his associate’s degree in General Science Concentration from Owens Community College in May 2019. He was working towards earning his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Toledo. Dave was a jack of all trades as he enjoyed working on many projects around his house as well as helping others. He could fix just about anything and taught his children how to do the same. An excellent teacher, he also imparted his wisdom about life to his family and friends. He had the opportunity to travel overseas for work where he thoroughly enjoyed trying all the exotic foods and making new friends. In his free time, Dave enjoyed traveling with his family and friends. Some of his favorite adventures included ziplining in Hawaii, hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, and Moonshine tasting in Gatlinburg. Dave was well known around the Maumee community for his volunteering with little league, softball and boy scouts. As his children got older you could find him volunteering at high school sporting events, even serving several years as the President of the Maumee Athletic Boosters. He will be remembered for his ridiculous sense of humor, selflessness and compassionate nature. He treated everyone the same, told you what he thought and always had a smile for you no matter what. He never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went. Dave was a shining light everywhere he went and made those around him smile and laugh so naturally. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Michelle (Gilbert) Greenawalt of Maumee; children, Katlyn Greenawalt (Donald Shockley) of Maumee; James Greenawalt of Sylvania, Ohio; and Tyler Greenawalt of Toledo, Ohio; granddaughter, Adalynn Shockley of Maumee; parents, Robert and Geraldine Greenawalt of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; siblings, Greg Greenawalt (Dawn) of Coppell, Texas; Anita Schimmel (Chris) of Westerville, Ohio; Pam Heminger (Perry Ganchar) of Dublin, Ohio; and Kristin Martinez (Dan) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his Mother-in-law Pat Gilbert of Williamsburg, Virginia; brother-in-law Kevin Gilbert (Annette) of Williamsburg, Virginia; sister-in-law Jodi Skinner (Steve) of Surry, Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews as well as many close friends who were considered family. Dave was also preceded in death by a brother, Mathew, in infancy. Due to the current circumstances, a celebration of Dave’s life will be announced at a later date. Fond memories and condolences are encouraged to be shared with the family on Dave’s tribute wall on his page at walkerfuneralhomes.com. Memorial contributions are suggested to any organization that benefits breast cancer research.
