David Lee Crites

March 20, 1937 — August 13, 2021

David Lee Crites, age 84, of the Toledo Point Place/Shoreland Community, died August 13, 2021, at his home. He was born March 20, 1937, in Toledo to the late Glenn and Hazel (Bridges) Crites and graduated from Macomber High School in 1953. He worked with the railroad from the age of 18 until his retirement as a locomotive engineer from Chessie Systems in 1999. David was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Toledo where he was an elder for more than 30 years. He was a devoted servant of Jehovah and a gifted public speaker, preaching about God’s Kingdom in front of large crowds many times. David was vibrant, joyful and had a terrific sense of humor. He also loved music and writing. David was a skilled harmonica player and had four books published locally about the history of the Point Place Community. He is lovingly survived by his wife of 65 years, Peggy Crites; children, Cheryl (William) Murphy, Cynthia Lee (Mark) Veryser, Clifford Aaron Crites, and Jennifer (Mike) Burtyk; thirteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and siblings, Philip (Linda) Crites, Phyllis Pokornik, Carolyn (Ray) Capela, and Timothy Crites. David was also preceded in death by a great grandson, Logan Barlage; and siblings, Ada, Georgia, Diane, and Glenn Jr. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. on Zoom through the Kingdom Hall.
