He attended Hamilton Township High School, class of 1941, where he first met Mary. Dave and Mary were married on June 29, 1944, at Obetz Zion Lutheran Church, while he was on a short leave from his service in the Navy during World War II. He served his country from 1942-1945 in the Pacific Theatre. When he returned from the service he enrolled at the Ohio State University under the G.I. Bill, where he majored in Economics. David was employed by Owens-Illinois for 33 years as a compensation and benefits specialist. He traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, and South America. He retired in 1983, planning to travel with Mary, but sadly, she developed Alzheimers Disease. Dave devoted the next 20 years of his life caring for Mary. She spent her last remaining six years at the Goerlich Center, Where Dave faithfully visited her twice a day to assist in her care. Upon her death in 2003, he established the Mary B. Coon Endowment Fund in her honor. David moved to West Park Place when medical issues forced him to sell his beloved home. He enjoyed the residents and the staff and often referred to West Park Place as his second home. The family wishes to thank everyone at West Park Place for the excellent care and the many kindnesses they showed to Dad during the five years he was a resident. Visitation will be at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., west of Corey Rd. on Sunday, April, 22, 2012, from noon until the time of service at 3:00 pm.
