David Elden Clevenger, age 54, of Toledo, formerly of Carleton and Monroe, MI passed away Monday, February 3, 2014. He was born in McKeesport, PA on August 14, 1959, the son of Josphine and Gary Hankin of Arizona and Elden Red Clevenger of Canton, MI and attended Airport Public School of Carleton. David was a mechanic for most of his life, working at Joe Lakes in Monroe for ten years and then working on semi-trucks for years. He also worked with his fathers business, Executive Vans in Ypsilanti. David and his wife, Brenda owned their own lawn business for several years. He also laid carpet with his Uncle Carl Mabry. David enjoyed classic cars and hot rods. He was a member of the Placers Car Club. He built from scratch two Chevy Novas. David won many trophies for racing motor bikes. He was an avid and skilled pool player and enjoyed making model cars and putting together bikes. David was a loving and caring person, touching many lives with his kindness. He also had a great group of family and friends that helped support him during his recent illness. David married the love of his life Brenda in 1991. They celebrated their 20th Wedding Anniversary in 2011 by renewing their vows and visiting Maine for six weeks. Brenda passed away shortly after that trip and now they are with the angels together again. David is survived by his mother and step-father, Josphine and Gary Hankin; former wife, Pam Welhalm; daughter, April Sly of Westhaven, MI; adopted sons, Blake Clevenger of Toledo and Travor Clevenger of TN; step-daughter, Angel Hill of Toledo; sister, Vicki Roger Vanderbush of Carleton; step-sisters, LeeAnn Lewis Velez of Attica, MI, Heather Ferman Chaves of Rochester Hills, MI, Karri Dean of Port Huron, MI; several grandchildren including Saige and Layton of Westhaven, MI; nephew, Spike Rachel Vanderbush of Dundee, MI; niece, Serina Vanderbush of Carleton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda; father, Elden Red Clevenger; infant brother, Kenneth; brother, Bill Fletcher; grandparents, Lawrence and Ann Prospect Hoskins and Kenny and Sly Zimmerman Clevenger of Wayne; Aunt Glinda Hoskins, Aunt Mary Randolph, Uncle Dillion Aunt Dot Clevenger, Uncle Doug Hanson; step-mother, Carol Dean Clevenger and cousin, Danielle Jones.
