DAVID L. CAYTON David L. Cayton, 74, Professor Emeritus, artist, of Perrysburg, OH died on, Sunday, February 1, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was born in Marion County, OH on July 30, 1940 to Russell and Iva (Mawer) Cayton and was married on November 18, 1967 in Indianapolis, IN to Susan J. Baker. David was a 1958 graduate of Bryan High School and received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from Bowling Green State University. David began his teaching career at BGSU in 1964 as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Teaching Fellow. Over the years his administrative assignments included head of Printmaking, Coordinator of the Art Foundation Program, 2-D Area Head and Acting Director of the School of Art. While his 35 years of teaching concentrated primarily on printmaking, he also taught drawing, oil and watercolor painting, sculpture, and ceramics courses at BGSU and Ball State University in Muncie, IN. His works have been seen in competitive exhibitions internationally and are in many important collections nationwide. David and his wife Susan operate Five Point Studio in Perrysburg where he created much of his art and sold art supplies. He was also an active re-enactor at the 1812 Fort Meigs State Memorial Site in Perrysburg and was a member of the Old Northwest Military Historical Association (ONMHA), the Toledo Art Museum, the Ohio Historical Society, and the Edith Franklin Scholarship Committee. David is survived by his wife, Susan; daughters, Carrie Anne (Sean Sullivan) Cayton and Catherine Glori Cayton both of Perrysburg; grandson, Austin James Cayton; brother, Dr. James (Jenny) Cayton of Longmont, CO; sister, Martha Jost of Colorado Springs, CO; niece, Kirin (Frank) Kinder of Colorado Springs, CO; nephew, Carl A. Baker and sister-in-law, Brenda Baker both of Spring Lake, NC. Friends will be received from 4-8 P.M. on Friday at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH 43551 (419-874-3133) where a Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 7, 2015. Burial will be in Fort Meigs Cemetery. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to the BGSU Art Department Scholarship Fund.
