David Albert Brunkhorst, 69, of Oak Harbor, OH passed away early Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, OH. He was born on June 1, 1948 in Port Clinton, OH to Albert and Evelyn (Meyer) Brunkhorst. David graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1966 and then the University of Toledo in 1970 with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering. David was a professional engineer and surveyor. He worked as a civil engineer in the Ottawa County Engineers Office from 1970-1981. He founded and ran Brunkhorst Engineering Consultants from 1981-2004. David then served as the Ottawa County Engineer from 2004 until his retirement in 2014. David was also a professional duck hunter for over 60 years, supporting wetlands and soil conservation all his life. He was the World Skeet Champion with .410 gauge shotgun in 1979, served as president of the Ohio Skeet Shooting Association in 1980, Ducks Unlimited Ohio State Chairman in 1980, Ducks Unlimited Regional Vice President 1992-1994, Ducks Unlimited Senior Vice President 1994-1998, and the Ducks Unlimited Mexico Board of Directors 1988-1998. David traveled and hunted in various places including, Canada, Mexico, and Argentina. He established the Sanford Marsh in 1995 and the B Marsh in 2006 along the Sandusky Bay, now known as the Brunkhorst Marsh. David is survived by his mother, Evelyn Brunkhorst, sisters, Carol (Tim) Shaw and Mary Brunkhorst, brother, John (Joni) Brunkhorst, nieces nephews, Christi (Rich) Haddix, Brittani (Vince) Sell, Joseph (Michelle) Brunkhorst, and Jenna (Brad) Britt, and many great nieces nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Brunkhorst. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m., Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor with a Masonic Service conducted at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services for David will be conducted by Reverend David Hendricks 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 122 W. Ottawa St., Oak Harbor, OH. Interment will follow in Rusha Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Memorial contributions in memory of David may be given to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, OH or a charity of the donors choice.
