David B. Evans, 71, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2010 at The Toledo Hospital. He was born in Toledo, Ohio to Robert B. Bob and Irene Nickerson Evans on May 28, 1939. A graduate of Scott High School, David attended Ohio State University. After serving in the United States Air Force, David enrolled at the University of Toledo. Upon completing his Bachelors Degree, he continued on to earn a Master of Arts in History. David spent most of his career teaching Social Studies/History at Roy C. Start High School. Upon retirement from Start, he worked part time at the Toledo Zoo and was a volunteer in their Education Department. His memberships included New Hope United Methodist Church Toledo, Phi Alpha Theta History Honorary, Toledo University Alumni Association, Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, American Legion Post #335, and Association of Zoo and Aquarium Docents. David was a member of Robinson-Locke Masonic Lodge #659, Past High Priest of Ft. Meigs Ft. Industry Chapter; Graton M Acklin Council No. 127, Lafayette Lyttle Commandery No. 77, Apollo Tabernacle No. 1, and Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo. He was also a member of Zenobia Shrine, Past Captain General of the Marching Patrol, Past President of the Crusaders, charter member of the Legion of Honor, Past Master and current associate chaplain of Lucas County Memorial Lodge, member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Toledo Court No. 21, and currently serving as Sovereign Master of Turkeyfoot Allied Masonic Degrees No. 253. David is survived by his wife, Judy; nieces, special niece, Lynda Miracle and nephews; several cousins; and his extended family, Carol Slezak, Katie Vipperman, Kari Shuck, Jenny Fisher, and Denise Buchele and his furry faithful companion, Simba. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Beverly Evans Babineau. Visitation will be held at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. on Tuesday, September 28 from 2 to 8 pm and Wednesday, September 29 from 4 to 8 pm with Masonic Services at 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, September 30, at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
