David Anthony Barry

December 2, 1969 — October 20, 2025

Port Clinton, OH

David Anthony “Tony” Barry, 55, of Sandusky, Ohio, passed away October 20, 2025, at Firelands Hospital after an extended illness. He was born in Kenton, Ohio, to David and Carol (Fierabend) Barry.

Tony graduated from Findlay High School in 1988 and immediately joined his stepfather Willy Hipsher, whom he called “Pop,” in the Lake Erie fishing charter business. He earned both his 6-Pack and large vessel licenses and spent his life on the water, grateful for the guidance of mentors Willy Hipsher, Jim Tofrich Sr. and Jr., Jerry Meyers Sr. and Jr., Joe Zemmecki, Ron Ayers, and Tom Roginski. He enjoyed working with fellow captains to find the hot spots and won numerous team tournaments with a trusted crew.

On February 15, 2010, Tony married Karen Friend in Columbia City, Indiana. They shared a love of football—Tony cheering for The Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns, Karen for Indiana University and the Indianapolis Colts. Eventually, Karen got Tony watching basketball too.

Tony is survived by his wife, Karen; mother, Carol Hipsher McCutchenville; son, Travis (Kate) Whitt; grandchildren, Makaylah, Madelyn, and Alexander Whitt; stepchildren, Christi (Scott) Elsten and Cory Friend; step-grandchildren, Addison Savage, Ryan Elsten, Logan and Ava Friend; cousins Tamie and Huggie; best friend Jackie; and great-aunt Doris. He was preceded in death by his father, David Barry; maternal grandparents, Bessie and Bailey Fierabend; and paternal grandparents, Felma and Alden Barry; and best friend Jay.

Tony lived life fully and made it his mission to bring laughter to others, no matter how he felt. His legacy is one of joy, generosity, and deep love for family, friends, and the lake he called home.

The family would like to thank everyone for their help and love during this time. He will be so dearly missed.

Memorial donations can be made in Tony's name to Port Clinton EMS. Condolences may be left at www.WalkerFuneralHomes.com. A memorial service will be announced at a future time.
